How to Change Your Field of View (FOV) in FiveM
Tired of tunnel vision in first-person mode? Learn the exact F8 console commands to increase your FOV in FiveM for better spatial awareness and combat advantage.

Changing the Field of View (FOV) in FiveM is one of the fastest and easiest ways to drastically improve your first-person gameplay.
By default, the vanilla Grand Theft Auto V first-person camera is notoriously tight, forcing a restrictive "tunnel vision" perspective that limits your situational awareness. By adjusting the FOV via FiveM's built-in console commands, you can widen your screen real estate, giving you a massive advantage in gunfights, driving, and spatial awareness during intense roleplay scenarios.
Here is the straightforward, no-nonsense guide on how to safely adjust your FOV in the FiveM client.
Step 1: Ensure You Are on the "Canary" Update Branch
The native command used to override the camera rendering perspective primarily targets the newest client builds. The FOV adjustment command operates flawlessly on the Canary (Unstable) branch of FiveM, which receives the newest graphical features before the Stable branch.
How to switch to Canary:
- Open your FiveM client to the main menu.
- Click the Gear icon (βοΈ) in the top-right corner to open Settings.
- Locate the Update Channel option.
- Change it from "Release" to "Latest" (Canary).
- Restart the client to download the update patch.

Step 2: Open the FiveM Console
Once you are loaded into a server, or even at the main menu, you need to access the developer console.
- Press
F8on your keyboard. - A dark overlay will drop down from the top of your screen. This is the FiveM Developer Console, where you can input client-side overrides.
Step 3: Enter the Native FOV Command
To adjust your FOV, you will use a specific profile configuration flag. Type the following command exactly as it is shown into the console input line:
profile_fpsFieldOfView <desired_number>
Replace <desired_number> with your preferred viewing angle.
What number should you choose?
- 60 - 70: The default, restrictive "vanilla" feeling.
- 85 - 90: The "Sweet Spot." This perfectly mimics modern FPS shooters like Call of Duty or Apex Legends. It provides excellent peripheral vision without stretching the center of the screen too much.
- 100+: The "Fishbowl." Extends your view massively, but can cause vehicle interiors to clip or look graphically distorted.
Example Command for optimal view:
profile_fpsFieldOfView 90
Hit Enter.
(Note: Do not include the < > brackets when typing the command.)
Step 4: Test and Adjust
Close the console by pressing F8 again. Press the V key (or whatever your camera toggle is bound to) to enter first-person mode.
Look around. Walk up to a wall, jump into an addon vehicle, and test the perspective. If you feel like your character's arms look too long or the world feels distorted, bring the console back down and bump the number down to 80 or 85.
You can tweak this value live, repeatedly, without needing to restart the game.
Adding FOV Changes to Your FiveM Config (Permanent Fix)
If you find that your FOV resets every time you relaunch FiveM, you can hardcode the setting into your client configuration file.
- Press
Win + Ron your desktop. - Type
%appdata%\CitizenFXand hit enter. (If it's not there, check%localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app). - Open
fivem.cfgorcitizenfx.iniusing Notepad or a code editor. - Add this line to the very bottom:
seta profile_fpsFieldOfView "90" - Save the file.
Why is a Higher FOV Important?
Customizing your FOV makes a monumental difference in competitive servers.
- Close-Quarters Combat: A wider FOV prevents enemies from easily breaking your ankles by running just out of frame.
- Driving: First-person driving becomes infinitely easier because you can actually see your side mirrors and the roads flanking your vehicle.
- Motion Sickness: Many players experience simulation sickness from tight FOVs. Pushing it up to 90 often cures nausea associated with prolonged first-person gaming.
Follow these steps, optimize your view, and dominate the city streets with unparalleled visibility!
